HPU Students Learn From Hotel Professionals, April 2003

HPU students received valuable tips and strategies on preparing for a career in the travel industry directly from industry professionals made possible through an event hosted by the Hawaii Pacific University Travel Industry Management (TIM) program.

The event, held on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, offered seminars led by local hotel and travel leaders, including Alan Cambra, general manager, Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel; Matthew Delaney, president and CEO, Marc Resorts Hawaii; Kevin Gleason, director of human resources, Sheraton Princess Kaiulani & Moana Surfrider; LiLi Hallett, director of human resources division, Outrigger Hotels & Resorts; Marie Kumabe, owner of Remedy Intelligent Staffing; Richard Lim, president of Atlantic & Pacific Travel; Mari Olson, area director of human resources, Pacific Islands at the Maui Marriott; Joni Paahao, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Aston Hotels & Resorts; and Barry Wallace, senior vice president of operations, Outrigger Hotels & Resorts.

"It was a good opportunity for TIM students to network with industry professionals and meet other TIM students and faculty," said student Kristi Hoecker. "We were fortunate to have some well-known guest speakers who have been working in the industry for a long time."

One of the most comprehensive travel program in the Pacific, the TIM Program at HPU offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. The curriculum is designed to provide students with instruction from distinguished industry professionals for management positions in the areas of hospitality and tourism.
